WHAT IS PROOFREADING?

Proofreading is the final stage of editing. It involves a meticulous examination of the text for typos, formatting errors, and minor inconsistencies, like unwanted spaces in the document. It is the last line of defense before publication, ensuring that the content is free of distracting errors that could diminish its impact.

 

Proofreading can therefore be used to:

  • Check Spelling

  • Check Punctuation

  • Remove Unwanted Spaces

  • Check the Formatting

WHO IS THE PROOFREADING SERVICE FOR?

Writers who are wondering if their manuscript is ready or nearly ready for publication, who therefore want a proofread in order to do any final polishing to prepare for submission to agents and publishers

WHAT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION DO YOU NEED?

I will need to know the book’s word count, category or genre, and its intended audience. It’s also useful to know the author’s goals for the book: for instance, are you aiming to get traditionally published or self-published?

 

Please tell me about your areas of concern, questions you want me to answer, and send me any relevant additional documents, such as your synopsis and pitch letter.

CAN WE HAVE A FOLLOW-UP SESSION AFTERWARDS?

If desired, we can have a follow-up call to discuss any clarifying questions. My mini consultation service is also available for clients who want further advice and encouragement while they are rewriting and editing the manuscript.

HOW MUCH DOES THE PROOFREADING SERVICE COST?

This depends on the length of the book and the true condition of the writing. Submit an inquiry to receive pricing details.

HOW LONG WILL THE PROOFREADING SERVICE TAKE?

3-5 weeks. I will confirm the date on which I aim to deliver the report once I receive the deposit, manuscript and any additional material.

 

I need this length of time to turn around the edit in order to fit the edit around my other work, as well as to allow time for me to mull over and digest the manuscript. Mulling time is an essential element of an effective proofread.
